Our Optometrists are Therapeutic & Glaucoma certified. They specialize in Routine eye care, Contact lens and gas permeable fittings, Bi-focal contact lens fitting, Kerotoconus fittings and Ortho-K fittings. Our Doctors work very closely with Focal Point Vision, Parkhurst Nuvision, and TLC centers co-managing Lasik procedures which includes pre-op and post-op care.
Dr. Marlan Anderson
Blanco, San Pedro & Vinyard
Dr. Anderson is a graduate of Baylor University and The University Of Houston Optometry School and has been in practice since 1982. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, The Bexar County Optometric Society, The Texas Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. He is also a Therapeutic and Glaucoma licensed Optometrist. In his spare time, he enjoys being with his family, traveling to Hawaii, scuba diving and hiking!
Dr. May Ando
Culebra & Potranco
May Ando, OD was born in Chicago, Illinois and at the age of 2 years old, her family moved to California. She has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area nearly her whole life, until the summer of 2015, when she came to San Antonio due to her husband’s job transfer. She graduated from Washington High School in Fremont, California and received her Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in microbiology from the University of California at Davis. She obtained her Doctor of Optometry degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry in Florida, and is a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Optometric Honor Society. She has been in practice since 1999. In her spare time, Dr. Ando enjoys tennis, reading and gardening.
Dr. Richard Bell
DeZavala, San Pedro & Walzem
Dr Bell was born in Wichita, Kansas. He graduated from Monterey High School in Lubbock and is a graduate of Texas Tech University where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Upon graduation, Dr Bell moved to Houston and worked as a NASA Engineer at the Johnson Space Center. He was a member of the engineering team responsible for the operation of the Space Shuttle Simulators used for Astronaut crew training. Dr. Bell is a member of the Bexar County Optometric Association, Texas Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. In his spare time Dr. Bell enjoys spending time with his family and boating at lake LBJ.
Dr. Felipe De Leon
Felipe De Leon, O.D. was born and raised in San Antonio. He attended the University of Incarnate Word where he received his Bachelor of Science in Vision Science. He then went on to attend Inter-American University of Puerto Rico School of Optometry where he received his Doctorate of Optometry. Dr. De Leon has been a part of the optometry field for 11 years; first as an optometric technician, and now as a Therapeutic Optometrist. Dr. De Leon has received extensive clinical training in different areas of optometry including ocular disease, vision therapy, contact lenses, and primary eye care.
Dr. De Leon furthered his education by completing externships in primary eye care at a private practice in Dallas, Texas and at NY LASIK laser and microsurgery institute in Manhattan, New York where he worked alongside Ophthalmologists that focused on refractive surgery, keratoconus treatment, dry eye treatment, oculoplastics, eye allergy treatment, cataract surgery and glaucoma surgery. Dr. De Leon strives to provide exceptional eye care to satisfy the patient’s visual needs. Outside of clinic, Dr. De Leon has a passion for cars, enjoys watching and playing sports, traveling, trying new foods, and rooting for the San Antonio Spurs and the Dallas Cowboys.
Dr. Edward Elder

Edward Carl Elder, OD is from San Antonio and is a 1977 graduate of Oliver Wendell Holmes High School. He participated in several sports and was an All-City Defensive Back. He has been inducted into the Oliver Wendell Holmes Hall of Honor. He received a BS degree from the University of Houston in 1981 in Biology. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1985 from the University Of Houston College Of Optometry. He is involved in the community and serves on several boards. Dr Elder is a member of the American Optometric Association, The Texas Optometric Association, and the Bexar County District Optometric Society. Dr. Elder is married to Bonnie Prosser Elder, who is chief counsel at Via Metropolitan Transit Authority. They have one daughter Marissa, who is a first year student at UT Austin. In his spare time Dr. Elder enjoys spending time with his family and friends. His hobbies include snow and water skiing, wake boarding, basketball and golf. We are very proud to announce that our own Dr. Edward Carl Elder will be receiving Pillar of Caring by the 20th Northside Education Foundation. Dr. Elder has continually exceeded all expectations in the realm of patient care and in the community. We are happy and proud to be a part of Dr. Elder’s private practice. Dr. Hang Jiang

Hang Jiang, O.D. was born in China but raised in Georgia for most of her life. Hang Jiang received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Georgia State University in May 2011. She received her Doctor of Optometry Degree from the University of Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry in May 2016. During her internship she completed rotations at the Mcwethy optometry clinic at Fort Sam Houston and the VA Hospital in Fayetteville, NC. During her spare time Jiang enjoys working out, music, trying new restaurants and traveling.
Dr. Stephen P. Planchet

Dr. Stephen Planchet, O.D., F.A.A.O.Optometric Glaucoma Specialist. Dr. Planchet is a 1996 graduate of New England College of Optometry. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and an Optometric Glaucoma Specialist. He served in the U.S. Army and was promoted to the rank of Major within eight years of service. He served as an associate clinical instructor for six colleges of optometry, participates on advisory panels to some of the top eye care companies in the world, and has lectured internationally on a variety of eye care topics. Dr. Planchet and his wife Marcela have three children, Nicolas, John Paul, and Eva Marie. Dr. Planchet is one of the founders of Our Lady of Grace Academy, a Catholic primary school located in Pleasanton. “I really care about people. This profession gives me the opportunity to work with people, improve their lives, and build long lasting relationships. I have always wanted to be in a profession that gives to the community, and helps make peoples lives a little better. I strive to be a caring, family oriented doctor.”
Dr. Christopher Prough

Dr. Christopher Prough, Therapeutic Optometrist Dr. Christopher Prough grew up in Pleasanton and is a Pleasanton High School graduate. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from Texas State University in San Marcos with a minor in Chemistry. In May of 2014 he earned his Doctor of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. In June 2014 he received his Texas Optometry license and became a Therapeutic Glaucoma Specialist in August of 2014. Dr. Prough’s externships include training from the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, The Eye Center in Memphis, Tennessee and with Draisin Vision Group in Charleston, South Carolina. Dr. Prough is a member of the American Optometric Association. He also served with the Student Volunteers for the Optometric Services to Humanity. Dr. Prough served with this organization in Belize City, Belize; Merida, Mexico and in May Pen, Jamaica. “I’ve always known that I wanted to be a health care provider. I worked as an ophthalmic technician just out of college and was blessed to work with some very caring optometrists that helped guide me into this field. I couldn’t be happier about this decision to become an eye doctor. I love that I can be part of the community and build lasting relationships with my patients. I enjoy seeing the smiles on children’s faces and helping those with eye health needs. I strive to provide each patient with high quality eye care and a lifetime of happy, healthy eyes.”

Dr. Jessica Saldivar-Alvarez, O.D. was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Saldivar-Alvarez graduated from Burbank High School and received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology from Our Lady of the Lake University in May 2006. She received her Doctor of Optometry Degree from the University of Houston College of Optometry in May 2010. She has been practicing at Eyetx since October 2010. Dr. Saldivar-Alvarez is a Therapeutic Optometrist and Optometric Glaucoma Specialist. She is also a member of the American Optometric Association, Texas Optometric Association and Bexar County Optometric Association. In her spare time, she likes spending time with her family and friends.
Dr. Valerie Winfrey
Vineyard & San Pedro
Dr. Valerie Winfrey completed her undergraduate schooling at the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) in San Antonio, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology. She furthered her education by obtaining a Doctorate of Optometry degree from the UIW Rosenberg School of Optometry. Dr. Winfrey has been practicing since 2013 and joined EyeTX in 2019. She became an optometrist because as a child, she loved going to the eye doctor. She knew that she wanted to be a doctor and having bad eyesight pointed her in the right direction. Dr. Winfrey enjoys meeting new people and helping them improve one of their most important senses – vision. When she’s not caring for her patients, she loves singing, hiking, being outdoors, and spending time with her family.
